Today's Top Tenner: 2011

Time passes so quickly. It seems to me I just heard my daughter belting this song out in the shower yesterday. In fact, I did. The number one song on this day in 2011: Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.”

Today's Wayback Chart Topper: 1986

I had long bangs, wore black and danced like I was on acid. Say what you will: it was the 80′s. And this song had TWO versions — the English one that didn’t have the woman wailing in it (which I preferred) and this version, which was the number one song on this day in 1986: “West End Girls,” by The Pet Shop Boys.

Today's Top Tenner: April 24, 1979

Blondie was like a Barbie doll. SERIOUSLY. She’s the size and shape of a Barbie doll. Check out her gams in this vid: PERFECT. The number one song this week in 1979: “Heart of Glass,” by Blondie. OOOoo-ooo-ooo-ohh-ohh. http://youtu.be/Jxpe1oSp_sg[/embe]   Also, from the kindness of my heart of glass, I have provided the lyrics because seriously? WTH is she saying? Heart of Glass Once I had a love and it was a gas Soon turned out had a heart of glass Seemed like the real thing, only to find Much of mistrust, love’s gone behind Once I had a love and it was divine Soon found out I was losing my mind It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind Much of mistrust, love’s gone behindIn between What I find is pleasing and I’m feeling fine Love is so confusing there’s no peace of mind If I [...]

Today's Top Tenner: April, 2012

This song has been haunting me for the last several day, for whatever reason. Plus I like that the guy is either named for a small barnyard animal or facial hair. Either way,  I share my obsession. “Somebody That I Used to Know,” by Gotye (featuring Kimbra). You’re welcome.

Today's Top Tenner: April 21,1977

Say what you will, this is a pretty awesome song. And though I like Thelma Houston’s number one hit from 1977 — “Don’t Leave Me This Way “– I prefer The Communards cover (which follows).

Today's Top Tenner: April 9,1967

The first time I heard this song I was put into a bit of a stupor. It’s so beautifully tragic. The number one song from this day in 1967: Frank and Nancy Sinatra, “Something Stupid.”

Today's Top Tenner: April 8,1979

This is the saddest song ever. I mean, not that I had any idea it was sad until I just read the lyrics (seriously, can anyone ever understand Michael McDonald?), but still — sad. I like songs with good lyrics. That’s why I added them below, so you could read what a good song this is. The number one song this day in 1979: the Doobie Brothers with “What a Fool Believes.” Note: “Doobie” means “marijuana cigarette.” So you can call them the Marijuana Cigarette Brothers, if you want.   He came from somewhere back in her long ago The sentimental fool dont see Tryin hard to recreate What had yet to be created once in her life She musters a smile For his nostalgic tale Never coming near what he wanted to say Only to realize It never really was She had a place in his life He never made [...]

Today's Top Tenner: April 6, 2009

Yesterday’s chart topper was the sweet, flouncy “Harvest Moon” from 1909. Oh my. What a difference 100 years makes. The number one song from this day in 2009: “Poker Face,” by the irreverent Lady Gaga. Followed by a remake by the irreverent Eric Cartman.
