This is heartbreaking news: Nora Ephron, writer, director and producer of — no exaggeration — most of my favorite movies, has died. She was 71.
The announcement that Ephron was gravely ill was made by her representative earlier today, and she passed very shortly after. Ephron was suffering from cancer.
Ephron wrote When Harry Met Sally, directed and wrote Sleepless in Seattle, and directed, wrote and produced You’ve Got Mail and Julie & Julia, among others. She pretty much invented the “chick flick,” and I can’t tell you how many afternoons I’ve spent in front of one of her films. They’re comfort food, if your idea of comfort food is a glass of wine and some really good cheese.
What a terrible loss for cinema. Condolences to Ephron’s family, friends and fans.

Oh, I ‘m so sorry to hear this. She was a movie maven, truly.
