We at The Full Moxie have been faced with the need at various times in our lives to learn how to be very good at living on a tight budget. We’ve worked at making the most of our money while still enjoying our lives, and in our new series: “Summer Spend-down” we’ll be sharing our favorite money saving tips with you, our readers. We hope you find this series to be helpful and that you’ll feel free to share with us your own favorite tips either by commenting on posts or submitting your own post via our guest writer program (if you’re interested in guest posting with us, please email info(at)thefullmoxie.com).

As you know, I recently started a new job, and with a new job came a need for a work wardrobe refresher. In my previous position, I spent a lot of time in an office by myself working at a desk and not out interfacing with others. (I wish I could have more, but the paperwork aspect of the job became nearly insurmountable during the most recent years.) So, most of the time I simply wore jeans and casual tops. The paperwork didn’t care what I wore.

However, my new job requires much more face time and though we have casual Fridays (yay!) I needed dress clothes for the other 80% of the work week. So for today’s Summer Spend-down post, I’m going to share how I was able to dramatically extend my work wardrobe for less than $110.

It started when a friend of a friend tipped me off to New York and Company. She said the store was great for fashionable work clothes, and that they had really great savings offers that they emailed if you signed up for their e-newsletter. I’ve signed up for many such newsletters in the past, some have not been so great, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Upon signing up for the newsletter, I immediately received a coupon for $25 off a $75 purchase. I then received another coupon in my first actual newsletter for $70 off a $150 purchase. In addition to these two coupons, the store also was having a buy one, get one 50% off sale online with free shipping for purchases over $100. So, I took the time to go to the store in person and see what their sizing was like. Once I had a good idea of fit, I went home and did the math to maximize my coupon and sale benefits. In the end, I was able to purchase three tops, one blouse, two three-quarter sleeved cardigans, one ruffled tank and a pencil skirt all for $110.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces from New York and Company (they use interactive images, so many of the photos can’t be shared here, sorry):

Shirred Cowl Neck Short Sleeved T (The price is great and it’s so flattering I bought  blue, green and black!)

Silky Cascade Sleeveless Blouse (great under a cardigan or cropped jacket)

Side Shirred Cardigan (very flattering, light enough for wearing indoors during summer)

Paneled Cotton Gabardine Pencil Skirt (I bought this in black, very comfortable and flattering)

So, ladies if your work wardrobe needs a lift, I highly recommend signing up for New York and Company’s e-newsletter –  (enter your email address in the box next to the sign up button and click) it’s one the really delivers!
