A few years ago, a friend recommended The Hunger Games to me. “It’ll be big,” she said. “The next Harry Potter or Twilight.” I never read it. I loved Harry Potter, and I finished the Twilight books more out of curiosity than anything else, but I felt I was kind of done with the young adult thing. I didn’t need to read the next big thing.

And then the trailer for The Hunger Games came out. I saw people losing their minds over the thing, and eventually curiosity got the better of me. I watched the trailer — and I was intrigued.

Last week a different friend loaned me her Hunger Games. I haven’t started reading it yet because I’m already reading a book I got from the library (Tasha Alexander’s A Crimson Warning). I wonder, though, after hearing so much about the book and the trailer, am I going to be disappointed? Is it possible for a book to live up to so much hype?

  1. I haven’t read these yet either and was wondering if I should. Will be curious to see what people who have read them say!

  2. Loved the trilogy. Def worth reading.

  3. You should definitely read it, you won’t be disappointed! I read both all the Twilight and Harry Potter books too however, the Hunger Games trilogy was a little more than just regular “young adult” fiction. It covered many mature and adult-like issues…really gets your mind going too! I loved it and hope you enjoy it too!!

  4. It’s a great series… it even hooked Justin!

  5. I enjoyed reading the books!

  6. Loved the first one the best- really inventive and better than the played out vampire saga!

  7. Just finished the first book. Honestly the best book I’ve read in awhile!! It’s one of those that completely sucks you in. Lightyears better than Twilight, easily.
